This painting depicts the historical Buddha Shakamuni (Skt. Śākyamuni) at Vulture Peak in India expounding the Dharma to an audience of bodhisattvas and disciples. The lower part of the composition has a rich landscape scene of a bridge over a river running through the mountains, the path to Vulture Peak.
