The esteemed monk Xutang Zhiyu brushed these characters, which constituted part of a farewell verse he presented to a Buddhist named Fu. One of Zhiyu's distant disciples founded Daitokuji, a temple closely associated with Japanese tea gatherings. Zhiyu's calligraphy has hence been highly treasured in tea gatherings.
