This is a sculpture of the Buddha Dainichi, regarded in Esoteric Buddhism as the creator of the universe. Sculptures like this, including that of other buddhas, were also confiscated from suspected Christians. Not all were venerated as Christian religious figures; it is possible that some were worshipped as Buddhist deities.
