This sword mounting (grip, guard, and scabbard) was custom-made for the blade displayed to the left. It features a black-lacquer coating accented with tiny gold emblems depicting paulownia leaves. This design suggests the mounting was commissioned by an elite samurai clan in the early 1600s after they acquired the blade.
