Hōryūji Temple was founded by the semi-legendary Prince Shōtoku (574–622). Later generations worshiped him as a god for his exceptional wisdom and devotion to Buddhism. The building shown here, the Hall of Dreams, is located at the temple and became Japan's primary religious site for worshiping the prince.
