Sitting with one leg crossed and resting his chin on his hand, this Buddhist statue is among other statues in this posture that were worshipped widely particularly in ancient Korea and Japan. In Japan, they may have been accepted as statues representing the bodhisattva Miroku, which people of the time believed to appear in the distant future.
